Dr. Minesh Mehta Offers Breadth of gastrointestinal Disease Treatment and Prevention

University Health Alliance (UHA), a multi-disciplinary practice focusing on prevention and coordinated care, welcomes board-certified gastroenterologist, Dr. Minesh Mehta, to its acclaimed roster. Dr. Mehta is now seeing patients at the UHA office in Oconee.

While leading UHA’s gastroenterology service line, Dr. Mehta provides state-of-the art medical care for patients facing both benign and malignant gastrointestinal illnesses. The latter includes colon and other gastrointestinal cancers. Additionally, Dr. Mehta specializes in treating chronic illnesses of the GI tract, including reflux disease, liver disease, hemorrhoids, and inflammatory bowel disease.

An Athens native, Dr. Mehta screens for all gastrointestinal (GI) malignancies to help prevent cancer within the community. Procedures include colonoscopies, upper endoscopies, and more. “Having access to high-quality GI care is critical for cancer prevention as a whole,” Dr. Mehta says. “Colon cancer is occurring in younger and younger age groups everyday, and early screening is key to saving lives.”

With the addition of Dr. Mehta, UHA continues its tradition of providing the Athens area access to world-class providers. A fellowship-trained physician, Dr. Mehta is an active member of the Association of Bariatric Endoscopy and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

Dr. Mehta is one of only a handful of physicians in the state who perform biopsies of the liver to identify liver disease. Additionally, he measures pressures in the liver for transplant cases and is one of the leading physicians in the country when it comes to procedural volume.

“The patients I’m privileged to treat are aligning themselves with a specialist who truly understands their disease process, remains passionate about the field, and can truly offer intervention or medicine to cure their issues,” Dr. Mehta explains.
